Shah Rukh Khan’s classic film “Veer-Zaara” originally released in 2004, has made a remarkable comeback, grossing over INR1 billion globally following its re-release.
The film, directed by Yash Chopra, returned to theaters on September 13, and has since earned approximately INR15.7 million in just a week.
This latest release boosts the film’s overall earnings to INR1.02 billion, a significant achievement nearly 20 years after its initial success, which garnered INR980 million worldwide.
The poignant tale of love and sacrifice between an Indian Air Force officer, Veer, played by Khan, and Zaara, a Pakistani woman portrayed by Preity Zinta, continues to resonate with audiences.
Earlier this year, “Veer-Zaara” had a brief re-run during Valentine’s week, earning INR 3 million. However, this latest release has proven to be much more profitable, highlighting the film’s enduring popularity.
The film’s memorable soundtrack, composed by the late Madan Mohan, remains a staple at weddings and romantic events.

The re-release trend is not limited to “Veer-Zaara”; other films like “Tumbbad” and “Laila Majnu” have also found success in theaters, indicating a growing appetite for classic cinema among audiences.
“Tumbbad” has earned INR131.5 million since its return, while “Laila Majnu,” a modern adaptation of a Persian love story, has garnered attention as well.
