Sanjay Leela Bhansali considered Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan for ‘Heeramandi’

Renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali shared details about the casting process and potential choices for his upcoming series, ‘Heeramandi.’

Bhansali disclosed that famous Pakistani actors including Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan were considered for prominent roles in the project.

During the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,’ Bhansali confirmed that another Pakistani actor Imran Abbas, who had claimed to be offered significant Bollywood roles, was indeed in contention for a role in the series.

The series has undergone numerous changes in its cast over the years, as Bhansali explained during a conversation with Lilly Singh.

He mentioned that the initial lineup included Rekha, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Rani Mukerji.

However, the cast went through multiple transformations before reaching its final ensemble.

The filmmaker expressed his satisfaction with the current cast, which features talents such as Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari.

‘Heeramandi’ is set to premiere on May 1 (today), offering viewers a captivating narrative set in pre-Independence Lahore, exploring the lives of courtesans and nawabs.
