Sindh CM-designate Baqar resolves to hold timely elections

Sindh Chief Minister-designate Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar has said that holding timely elections will be the top priority of the caretaker setup.

The former chief justice of the Sindh High Court resolved that he would not condone any form of misappropriation or corruption during his tenure as the caretaker CM.

He made it clear that the election will be according to the constitution and law.

Baqar said that it is the interim setup’s responsibility to conduct free and fair elections, while the Election Commission is responsible for delimitation in which the caretaker government will lend its support to the electoral body.

The CM-designate said that the caretaker cabinet will be formed after he assumed charge and that the development projects in the province will continue as usual.

It is pertinent to mention that Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori signed the summary to appoint Baqar as the caretaker CM of Sindh after outgoing Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and the leader of the opposition reached a consensus on his name on August, 14.

On August 11, Sindh Assembly was dissolved after Governor Sindh signed the summary forwarded by outgoing Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Similarly, Anwaarul Haq Kakar was sworn in on August 14 as the 8th caretaker prime minister of Pakistan putting an end to Shehbaz Sharif’s 16-month term as premier.

The swearing in ceremony took take place at 3pm at the President’s House. President Arif Alvi administered oath of the office to Kakar. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also attended the ceremony.
