The second spell of monsoon rains hit Lahore on Saturday while Peshawar also received rainfall which provided the citizen a sigh of relief from the hot and humid weather.

Thundershowers were reported in Landi Kotal and its surrounding areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which resulted in overflowing in nullah while water entered several houses in several areas.

Earlier on Friday, Islamabad, Rawalpindi received heavy rainfall as water accumulated on the streets of the low-lying areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had forecast more monsoon rains across the country from July 13 to 17 with occasional gaps.

“The monsoon currents from Arabian sea are likely to penetrate in upper and central parts of the country from July 12 (evening) which are likely to intensify on July 14. A westerly wave is expected to enter upper parts on 14th (evening/night),” it said.

The Met office expected rain and thundershower with few heavy falls in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur, Okara and Kashmir from July 12 (evening/night) to July 17 with occasional gaps.

It also forecast thundershower in Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, D.I Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Mianwali, Khusab, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh from July 13 (evening/night) to July 17.

The Met office stated that heavy rain may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore from July 14 to 17 and may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period.

“Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast. Tourists and travelers are advised to remain extra cautious to avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell,” it said.

The Met office forecast heavy rain in Karachi after July 20 as a new wave of monsoon rains entering the country from the Bay of Bengal will affect Sindh between July 20 and 22, likely to result in heavy rains in parts of the province.
