Heavy downpour in parts of Karachi

Parts of Karachi received heavy rain on Saturday as torrential monsoon rain grips Pakistan, while northern areas received an unexpected snowfall.

Malir, Super Highway, Scheme 33, Surjani, North Nazimabad and areas surroundings Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport received a downpour which provided some relief to the dwellers from humid weather.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast thundershowers in Karachi tomorrow (June 9) amidst intermittent rains in several areas of the metropolitan in the early hours of the day.

“Thundershowers would take place today and tomorrow (June 9) as well,” it stated.

On Friday, strong winds with rain were reported in the city’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Super Highway and Gadap Town areas as monsoon season hit parts of the country.

Meanwhile, more rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pothohar region, Punjab, east/northeast Balochistan, and Sindh during the next 12 hours, according to the Met Office.

Isolated heavy fall is also expected in northeast Punjab, Potohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, and central and lower Sindh during the period.

As the intermittent rain continued in the city, flight schedules have been severely affected at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.

Several domestic and international flights have been cancelled or delayed, causing inconvenience to passengers.

While major cities including Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore received rains, upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district received unexpected snowfall which turned the weather cold.

Lake Saif-ul-Malook and Babusar Top in Kaghan Valley received heavy snowfall while rain continued in the adjacent Naran, Kaghan and Balakot areas.
