The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday forecasted rain and thundershowers across the country for the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in different areas across Sindh, eastern Balochistan, south Punjab and southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) during this period.
According to the synoptic situation, strong monsoon currents have been penetrating in central and lower parts of the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to carry out active relief and rehabilitation activities in the flood-affected areas of southern Sindh.
The premier has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and property caused by the monsoon rains.
He asked the NDMA and PDMA to pace up relief operations in the affected areas and stressed ensuring rescue efforts on a priority basis. He also directed the relevant authorities to provide financial assistance of Rs50,000 to each affected family.
PM Shehbaz further emphasised on providing an immediate supply of food and clean water to the victims besides ensuring facilities of accommodation and medicines for them. He also instructed the authorities to be vigilant in the wake of potential rain season and flooding and taking necessary measures in this regard.
Rainfall recorded in the past 24hrs
During the last 24 hours, rain-wind with thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls were recorded in Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, K-P, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).
The rainfall recorded in different parts of Punjab included: Attock 93mm, Layyah 56mm, Bahawalpur (airport 58mm, city 44mm), Kot Addu 47mm, DG Khan 41mm, Islamabad (Saidpur 30mm, Golra 26mm, Zeropoint 20mm, Bokra 06mm).
Khanpur 28mm, Multan (city 23mm, airport 14mm), Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 22mm, Kachhari/Chaklala 05mm), Murree 16mm, Rahim Yar Khan 14mm, Khanewal 13mm, Bahawalnagar 12mm, Sargodha, Jhang 09mm, Bhakkar 04mm, Toba Tek Singh, Noorpur Thal 02mm and Sahiwal 01mm.
Whereas in Sindh the recorded rainfall in different cities and areas included: Thatta 79mm, Tando Jam 58mm, Khairpur 56mm, Chhor 46mm, Mirpur Khas 35mm, Sukkur 31mm, Karachi (Gulshan-e-Hadeed 29mm, Saddar 23mm, Quaidabad 17mm, Korangi 09mm, Old Area Airport, Jinnah Terminal, Gadap Town, Saadi Town, University road 05mm. Kemari, Nazimabad 04mm, DHA, Faisal Base 03mm, Surjani, Orangi 01mm).
Hyderabad received 24mm, Jacobabad 23mm, Mithi 18mm, Shaheed Benazirabad 16mm, Padidan 14mm, Badin 13mm, Larkana 10mm, Rohri 07mm, Sakrand 06mm, Dadu 04mm and in Mohenjo Daro 03mm of rainfall was recorded.
In K-P, the rainfall recorded included: Cherat 57mm, Bacha Khan (airport) 41mm, Peshawar 31mm, Malam Jabba 29mm, Bannu 25mm, DI Khan (Airport 20mm, City 09mm), Kakul 16mm, Pattan 15mm, Kalam 14mm, Parachinar 13mm, Dir (Upper 08mm, Lower 05mm), Balakot, Mardan 03mm and Saidu Sharif 01mm.
In G-B: Bunji received 17mm, Gupis, Chillas 08mm, Gilgit 06mm, Babusar 04mm, Bagrote 03mm, Astore 03mm and Skardu 01mm.
Balochistan’s recorded rainfall included Kalat, Barkhan receiving 08mm, Zhob 07mm, Gwadar 03mm, Quetta (city 02mm, Samungli 01mm), Turbat 01mm whereas, in Kashmir, Kotli received 15mm, Muzaffarabad (city 12mm, airport 07mm), Rawalakot 11mm and Garhi Dupatta 02mm.
The highest maximum temperatures were recorded in Nokkundi with 42oC and 40oC in Dalbandin.
