Child’s body retrieved after flood in Malir river sweeps away six of a family

The body of a child who was swept away along with his family in Karachi’s Malir river has been retrieved while the search for six other people in the car is underway.

The body of the child was recovered from Hashim Mir Ali Goth river and has been identified as Musa.

Rescue officials said that six members of a family and their driver, including four children, were travelling to Hyderabad from Karachi’s Quaidabad area. They went missing after their car was swept away by a flood following heavy rain near Kathore, Sindh.

Rescue officials said that the car was swept away after the flow of water increased.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department issued warnings for flash floods and heavy rains in Sindh from August 16 to 19.

PMD warned that heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Faisalabad, Lahore, and Gujranwala.

A weather expert told Aaj News that moderate to heavy rainfall was expected in many areas of Sindh after the entry of the monsoon spell from India.

He predicted that rain intensity could be more in Sindh’s central and western areas (Dadu and Jacboabad).
