*Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the delay in the construction of the Islamabad Jail Complex, which has been under construction for 10 years.
On Monday, the premier directed the authorities concerned to complete the project in the next fiscal year. He has constituted a project review committee and issued a formal notification seeking a report from the committee within a week.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah will head the six-member committee to review the jail plan. The members of the committee include the secretaries of the ministries of Interior, Housing and Planning, the chief commissioner of Islamabad and the chairman of the Capital Development Authority.
Islamabad Jail Complex is being built in line with modern prisons of the world.
Due to the non-construction of the building, prisoners of Islamabad have been lodged in Adiala Jail since last six decades. The modern jail with an area of 90 acres is being built in Sector H-16 near the motorway.
The two-storey barracks will house 2,000 inmates. It has schools, mosques, training centers, playgrounds and ICT courts on the premises. A training center for jail officials is also part of the project.
