The body of renowned Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi has been recovered from Broad Peak and shifted to Skardu by a Pakistan Army helicopter, officials said on Saturday.

Sakhi was among 10 Pakistani and foreign mountaineers who went missing after an avalanche struck near Camp II during a Broad Peak expedition on July 30.

The Pakistan Army’s ongoing rescue operation has so far recovered the bodies of eight climbers, including Sakhi.

His remains were flown from the mountain’s base camp to Skardu on Saturday.

Commissioner Kamal Khan and Shigar Deputy Commissioner Sher Afzal received the body before it was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

Broad Peak, one of the world’s highest mountains, stands at an altitude of 8,047 metres.

The search operation for the remaining missing climbers has continued for around 15 days.

Authorities are still searching for remains of an American female mountaineer and a Nepali climber.

Shigar Deputy Commissioner Sher Afzal said the search operation for the two remaining climbers would continue.
