Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday dismissed reports that he had submitted his resignation amid heightened tensions with the United States, saying he had no intention of stepping down and would continue to lead the country.

In a televised address, excerpts of which were carried by the official IRNA news agency, Pezeshkian said he would announce any such decision publicly if it were ever made.

“If I were going to resign, I would announce it publicly. I will not resign, and I will continue the struggle,” he said.

The Iranian president also rejected speculation of differences with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei or the country’s armed forces, insisting that the leadership remained united.

“We are working in full harmony,” Pezeshkian said, adding that the military remained firmly aligned with the supreme leader.

“Everyone knows that if any disagreement arises, the armed forces would stand with Khamenei,” he added.

His comments came after media reports claimed he had threatened to resign on 28 occasions and had submitted a tentative resignation letter in May, allegedly complaining that his government had been sidelined on national security and foreign policy by the military and hardline factions.

Iranian officials rejected those allegations when they first surfaced.

The reports also quoted cleric Mohammad Bagher Kharrazi as claiming that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei had told Pezeshkian that any future resignation would be accepted.

However, Mehdi Tabatabai, spokesperson for the president’s office, strongly denied the reports, calling them “baseless” and “pure fabrication.”

He said President Pezeshkian had never considered stepping down and described the claims as part of a broader campaign to mislead the public and undermine confidence in the government.
