A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was martyred and a police constable was injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle in Balochistan’s Barkhan district on Tuesday, police said.

The attack took place near the Khana checkpost, where assailants targeted the police vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Police identified the slain officer as DSP Murid Bugti. A police official accompanying him sustained injuries in the attack and was shifted for medical treatment.

Security forces and police rushed to the area after the shooting and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
