A fresh spell of monsoon rains is expected to lash Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 29 to August 5, with authorities issuing warnings of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

In a weather alert, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned of possible flash floods, swollen streams and landslides in several districts during that period.

According to the PDMA, monsoon rains will begin affecting the upper and central parts of the province from July 29, while a strong westerly weather system is also expected to intensify from August 1, increasing the likelihood of heavy rainfall.

The authority has directed all district administrations to take precautionary measures in advance and remain prepared to deal with any emergency arising from the expected weather conditions.

The PDMA warned that landslides could occur in the upper districts of Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra and Kohistan due to persistent rainfall.

It also cautioned that local rivers and hill torrents in the upper districts may experience flash flooding, urging authorities to closely monitor vulnerable areas and ensure timely response measures.
