US approves $2.5bn arms packages for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait
1 min readThe United States has approved potential arms sales worth nearly $2.5 billion to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, the State Department announced on Wednesday.
The proposed $1.96 billion sale to Saudi Arabia includes up to 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS-II) air-to-air guidance sections and up to 10,000 APKWS-II air-to-ground guidance sections.
The package also comprises launchers, warheads, rocket motors, fuses, spare and repair parts, technical documentation, training equipment, and logistics support services.
The State Department said BAE Systems, based in Nashua, New Hampshire, would serve as the principal contractor for the proposed Saudi deal.
In a separate notification, Washington also approved a potential $484 million Foreign Military Sale to Kuwait to support the sustainment of its C-17 transport aircraft fleet.
The Kuwait package includes aircraft components, spare and repair parts, modification and support equipment, ground handling and communications equipment, software support, technical documentation, training, and logistics services.
The proposed sales are subject to congressional review under the US foreign military sales process.
