Iran claimed it launched waves of drone and missile attacks against US military facilities and allied bases across the Gulf region on Sunday in retaliation for fresh American strikes on Iranian territory.

According to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, the Iranian Army said it carried out explosive drone attacks on US military sites in Kuwait, targeting a Patriot air defence system, an ammunition depot and a radar installation.

It also claimed to have struck a US communications system and radar site in Bahrain.

The attacks, the army said, were launched in response to what it described as continued US air strikes on areas in southern Iran.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) also claimed that US forces had conducted air strikes against several coastal bases and communication towers along Iran’s southern coastline.

Separately, the IRGC claimed it had destroyed a command-and-control centre and MQ-9 drone hangars at Jordan’s Prince Hassan Air Base, which it described as a US military facility.

Ibrahim Al Fiqar, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam Al Anbiya Central Headquarters, said the command centre at the base had been destroyed during the operation.

The wave of attacks triggered air defence responses across the Gulf.

The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Defence confirmed that its air defence systems were actively intercepting incoming missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Qatar’s Ministry of Defence said its forces successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting the country, while warning sirens sounded in Bahrain.

Explosions were also reported in the Qatari capital, Doha, as air defence systems responded to the aerial threats.
