A major terrorist plot in Karachi was thwarted after two suspected militants allegedly linked to the banned BLA group were arrested, officials said on Tuesday.

The officials also claimed to have recovered explosives and other bomb-making materials from them.

The arrest was made in an intelligence-based operation jointly conducted by the Sindh Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other security agencies.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the operation led to the seizure of four kilograms of explosives, detonators, prima cord and ball bearings from the suspects’ possession.

The suspects were identified as Mujahid Baloch, son of Dil Jan, and Fareed Baloch alias Zakir, son of Ejaz Ahmed.

The CTD stated that the suspects had been conducting reconnaissance of sensitive installations and passing intelligence to the banned militant outfit.

They were also allegedly planning attacks on law enforcement agencies and other sensitive locations.

Cases have been registered against the suspects at the CTD police station, and an investigation is under way.

The CTD said additional teams had been formed to trace and arrest other suspected members of the network.
