Iran praises Pakistan's mediation role
2 min readChief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday, with both sides exchanging views on regional developments, peace initiatives, and bilateral relations, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and responsible role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation, and regional stability.
He acknowledged Pakistan’s consistent efforts to encourage the peaceful resolution of disputes and foster understanding among regional stakeholders amid heightened geopolitical challenges.
Field Marshal Munir reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the region.
Both sides reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations and maintain close consultations on issues of mutual interest, with the shared objective of advancing peace, prosperity and stability across the region.
Earlier in the day, upon arrival at the Prime Minister’s House President Pezeshkian was received with a guard of honour.
He also planted a sapling on the PM House lawn.
The Iranian president arrived in Islamabad on a state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Shehbaz received him at Nur Khan Airbase, where he was accorded a 21-gun salute and a Pakistan Air Force fighter jet flypast.
His aircraft had been escorted into Pakistani airspace by PAF jets, while children in traditional attire presented him with bouquets on arrival.
The Iranian president was accompanied by a high-level delegation that included Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and other senior officials. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, and other senior Pakistani officials were also present at the reception.
This was Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan in his capacity as president.
The one-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and reviewing progress on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. It was also intended in part to acknowledge Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating the US-Iran mediation process.
According to the Foreign Office, the two sides held detailed discussions on trade, energy cooperation, border management, and people-to-people contacts.
They also reviewed progress on the Islamabad MoU and exchanged views on regional and international developments.
