Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will undertake a state visit to Pakistan on June 23 at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Foreign Office (FO) announced on Monday.

According to an FO statement, President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior officials.

During the visit, the Iranian president will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold talks with PM Shehbaz.

Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will also call on the visiting dignitary.

The FO said this would be Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan since assuming office as president of Iran.

“The forthcoming visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Iran to further deepen their historic and cultural ties and underscores their common aspiration for peace, stability and sustainable progress in the region,” the FO said.

According to the statement, the two sides will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore avenues to expand cooperation in trade, energy, border security, people-to-people exchanges and regional connectivity.

The visit is also expected to provide an opportunity to discuss ongoing diplomatic engagements following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Presidential Press Office confirmed the visit, saying President Pezeshkian would hold important talks with PM Shehbaz during his stay.

Iranian officials said the president is expected to thank Pakistan for its mediation role in facilitating recent negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Discussions will also focus on bilateral relations, strengthening high-level contacts, regional developments and matters of mutual interest.

The two sides are further expected to review progress on existing economic cooperation agreements and explore ways to accelerate their implementation.

Pezeshkian’s visit comes days after direct talks between the United States and Iran were held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 18.

The negotiations, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, resulted in an agreement on a roadmap for further talks aimed at resolving key disputes, enhancing regional stability and addressing broader political and economic issues.

Diplomatic observers view the Iranian president’s visit as a significant step in strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations while reinforcing Islamabad’s growing role in regional diplomacy and conflict resolution efforts.
