Seven Pakistani artefacts recovered by Italy’s Guardia di Finanza have been returned to Pakistan and reached Islamabad, according to the Pakistani embassy in Rome.

The embassy said the seven antiquities were transferred to Pakistan after being handed over to the Pakistani Consul General in Milan.

The return follows Italy’s handover of 90 historical artefacts to Pakistan in October 2025.

According to the embassy, cooperation between Pakistan and Italy in the field of cultural heritage protection and archaeology is ongoing, and the recovery of Pakistani cultural heritage smuggled to Italy reflects effective diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.

The embassy said the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and the Guardia di Finanza played a significant role in the return of the artefacts.

Pakistan, home to some of the world’s oldest civilisations, includes the historical heritage of Mehrgarh, Mohenjo-Daro and Gandhara.

The Pakistani embassy thanked the Italian Ministry of Culture and related institutions for facilitating the return of the artefacts.

It added that cooperation between Pakistan and Italy in the fields of archaeology, research and cultural preservation is continuing to develop.
