Saudi Arabia unveils Wimbledon-style tennis centre in Qiddiya City
2 min readSaudi Arabia has announced plans for a large new national tennis centre in Qiddiya City, featuring a Wimbledon-inspired design, a 15,000-seat centre court and ambitions to host major international tournaments.
Saudi Arabia has revealed plans to build a new national tennis centre designed to resemble Wimbledon, as part of its wider sports and entertainment development projects in Qiddiya City near Riyadh.
The facility, developed by Qiddiya Investment Company, will feature a 15,000-seat centre court with a retractable roof designed for climate control, alongside 28 hard courts and two clay courts.
All courts will use non-grass surfaces.
Images released by the developers show courts with green and purple colour schemes similar to Wimbledon, with landscaped surroundings and plant-covered exterior structures.
The centre has been designed by architecture firm Populous, which also worked on Wimbledon’s Centre Court roof.
Officials say the venue is intended to serve as a major hub for tennis in the region and could host high-level international tournaments in the future.
Saudi sports officials said the project is part of efforts to develop sporting infrastructure and promote local talent under the country’s wider economic diversification strategy.
ATP chief executive Eno Polo said the facility could play an important role in expanding tennis participation and providing a platform for elite competition in the region.
The development forms part of broader plans for Qiddiya City, a large-scale entertainment and sports project located around 30 miles from Riyadh.
