China lauds Pakistan's mediation role as Islamabad, Beijing welcome Iran-US accord

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic efforts and acknowledged its strong mediation role in promoting regional and global peace during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said on Tuesday.

Wang also commended Islamabad’s contributions to international stability through diplomacy and dialogue, according to the Foreign Office spokesperson.

During the call, the two foreign ministers welcomed the understandings reached under the Iran-US memorandum of understanding, describing the agreement as an important step towards lasting peace and stability in the region.

Dar appreciated China’s consistent support for negotiations and diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States.

He also lauded Beijing’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability, including Chinese President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal and the joint Pakistan-China five-point initiative.

The two sides emphasised the importance of maintaining close engagement to ensure the implementation of the Iran-US understanding and the peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues.

They also highlighted the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, noting its vital role in the global economy, energy security and international trade.

Dar and Wang welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China and agreed to continue effective implementation of the outcomes of the trip.

The deputy prime minister stressed the importance of advancing cooperation under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and further strengthening bilateral economic and investment ties.

Both countries agreed to maintain close coordination and consultations on bilateral, regional and international issues, reaffirming their commitment to deepening the Pakistan-China strategic partnership.
