Karachi is likely to experience heatwave conditions from June 10 to June 12, with temperatures expected to rise between 39°C and 42°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Weather officials said the presence of sea breezes could make conditions feel significantly hotter, with the perceived temperature expected to be 8°C to 10°C higher than the actual reading.

On Tuesday, the city’s maximum temperature was recorded at 36.5°C. However, humidity levels reached 62%, pushing the heat index to around 48°C and intensifying discomfort for residents.

The PMD said northwesterly winds continued to blow across the city at speeds ranging between 22 and 25 kilometres per hour.

Health experts have urged citizens, particularly children, women, the elderly and people with underlying health conditions, to take extra precautions during the hot spell.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. and to maintain adequate hydration and electrolyte intake to prevent heat-related illnesses.
