Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a strict crackdown on overcharging, overloading and unfit public transport vehicles ahead of Eid al-Azha to ensure safe and affordable travel for passengers across the province.

According to an official statement, the chief minister directed authorities to intensify inspections at bus terminals and public transport facilities during the Eid holidays.

CM Maryam instructed all deputy commissioners and district police officers to ensure indiscriminate action against transporters involved in overcharging passengers, overloading vehicles or operating unfit buses.

She also ordered that fare lists be prominently displayed at every bus and terminal to prevent transport operators from charging passengers above the approved rates.

The chief minister directed authorities to cancel route permits of buses involved in overcharging, along with licences of the concerned bus stands.

CM Maryam further ordered the immediate suspension of transport vehicles operating without fitness certificates during the Eid period and stressed strict enforcement of rules against overloading.

She also instructed officials to ensure the provision of cold drinking water and other basic facilities for passengers at bus terminals across the province.
