Iran accuses US of undermining diplomacy
2 min readIranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of repeatedly undermining diplomatic efforts and escalating military tensions, while rejecting recent American intelligence assessments regarding Iran’s missile capabilities.
In a statement posted on Friday on X, the Iranian foreign minister criticised Washington for allegedly weakening ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending regional hostilities.
“Every time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the U.S. opts for a reckless military adventure. Is it a crude pressure tactic? Or the result of a spoiler once again duping POTUS into another quagmire?” Araghchi wrote.
“Whatever the causes, outcome is the same: Iranians never bow to pressure.”
Araghchi did not mention any specific incident in his statement but suggested that continued military escalation was damaging efforts toward diplomacy and a ceasefire in the region.
The Iranian foreign minister also dismissed a recent assessment by the US intelligence community and the CIA regarding Tehran’s missile capabilities.
According to the intelligence assessment, cited in US media reports, Iran still retains significant ballistic missile capabilities despite weeks of intense US and Israeli bombardment.
The assessment said Iran maintains around 75 per cent of its prewar inventory of mobile missile launchers and nearly 70 per cent of its missile stockpiles.
It further stated that Tehran had managed to reopen most of its underground storage facilities, repair some damaged missiles and complete assembly of several missiles that were nearly finished before the conflict began.
Responding to those claims, Araghchi said the figures were incorrect.
“Also, the CIA is wrong. Our missile inventory and launcher capacity are not at 75% compared to Feb 28. The correct figure is 120%,” he said in a post.
“As for our readiness to defend our people: 1,000%.”
The remarks came amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, as regional and international efforts continue to push for a diplomatic settlement and sustained ceasefire.
According to a report by The Washington Post, US intelligence officials believe Iran has retained a substantial portion of its missile infrastructure despite extensive military strikes.
The report said Tehran had restored much of its underground missile storage network and repaired part of its damaged arsenal during the ongoing conflict.
