PM orders push for renewable energy, power sector reforms
1 min readPrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to accelerate reforms in the energy sector, with a focus on promoting renewable energy to address the country’s power shortage.
Chairing a meeting on power sector reforms, the prime minister emphasised the use of modern technology and called for steps to facilitate both industrial and domestic consumers.
He stressed the need to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply to support industrial growth, while prioritising relief for household consumers.
The prime minister instructed officials to significantly reduce line losses by improving the transmission system and to formulate a comprehensive strategy to stabilise electricity tariffs.
He also called for expanding digital facilities to make bill payments easier for consumers and ordered the continuation of strict measures to curb electricity theft.
PM Shehbaz said reforms in the energy sector would be carried out with due consideration of the broader interests of the public and industry.
During the meeting, recommendations regarding electricity consumption for domestic users and industry were presented.
The session was attended by federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Sardar Owais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior officials.
