Trump: Iran deal will be ‘far better’ than Obama-era pact
2 min readUS President Donald Trump said on Monday that a potential nuclear agreement with Iran would be “far better” than the 2015 deal reached under former president Barack Obama, insisting his administration would prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
“The DEAL that we are making with Iran will be FAR BETTER than the JCPOA, commonly referred to as ‘The Iran Nuclear Deal,’” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
He criticised the Obama-era agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), calling it “one of the worst deals ever made” and arguing it paved the way for Iran to develop nuclear weapons.
“It was a guaranteed Road to a Nuclear Weapon, which will not, and cannot, happen with the Deal we’re working on,” Trump said.
The president also referenced past financial arrangements, claiming billions of dollars were transferred to Iran under the earlier deal.
“In addition, Hundreds of Billions of Dollars was paid to Iran,” he said, adding that funds were used without restriction.
Trump argued that abandoning the 2015 accord in 2018 prevented a broader security crisis.

“If I did not terminate that ‘Deal,’ Nuclear Weapons would have been used on Israel, and all over the Middle East, including our cherished U.S. Military Bases,” he said.
The 2015 agreement aimed to curb Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief, including limits on uranium enrichment, a reduction in centrifuges, and international inspections. Trump withdrew the United States from the deal during his first term.
Defending his current approach, Trump said any new agreement under his leadership would guarantee peace and stability not only for Israel but for the wider Middle East and beyond.
He also rejected criticism from Democrats and nuclear experts that his administration is rushing complex negotiations.
Separately, President Trump told the New York Post he “won’t be rushed” to end the Iran war on its 52nd day, criticising both Democrats and Republicans pushing for a quick resolution.
“How bad is it that when you are in the middle of negotiations, and you have got the Iranians in a perfect position, including being militarily defeated, and you have Democrats and some Republicans asking to settle it now?” Trump said in a phone interview.
“As a negotiator — and I am a great negotiator — how bad is it when you have people from your own country trying to reach a deal?” he said.
