Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday chaired a high-level consultative meeting to review the situation surrounding the proposed second round of US-Iran talks, amid reports that Tehran may not participate.

According to sources, the meeting was attended by senior officials, including the foreign and interior ministers, and focused on the evolving diplomatic landscape after Iran’s reported reluctance to join the next round.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the prime minister on his recent meetings with the US and Iranian envoys, outlining security arrangements and diplomatic engagements linked to the talks.

Participants reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, stressing that continued engagement remains essential for regional stability.

The meeting also agreed to maintain diplomatic contacts to encourage Iran’s participation and ensure the talks proceed as planned.

Pakistan has positioned itself as a mediator in recent weeks, hosting the first round of discussions and stepping up security and logistical preparations for a follow-up round in Islamabad.

Officials say the initiative reflects Islamabad’s broader effort to ease tensions and promote a negotiated settlement between the two sides.
