PM Shehbaz meets world leaders in Antalya, praises Trump’s role in Lebanon ceasefire
2 min readPakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a series of high-level meetings on Friday with global leaders on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkiye, discussing regional stability, bilateral ties and broader geopolitical developments.
PM Shehbaz met US President Donald Trump’s senior adviser on Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, where both sides reviewed regional developments, including Pakistan’s role in peace efforts and recent ceasefire initiatives.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif praised Trump’s leadership in securing a ceasefire in Lebanon and recalled his previous engagement with the US president, including efforts that helped avert conflict between Pakistan and India last year.
The meeting also focused on strengthening Pakistan-US relations, particularly in economic and trade cooperation, as well as coordination on multilateral diplomacy. Boulos conveyed Trump’s greetings and commended Pakistan’s “constructive role” in promoting regional stability, while reiterating Washington’s interest in expanding cooperation on counter-terrorism, economic development and global challenges.
PM Shehbaz met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharh, among others, in what officials described as cordial engagements marked by discussions on global and regional issues.
He also held talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and former Kosovo president Vjosa Osmani. Officials said PM Shehbaz remained a focal point of interactions among world leaders attending the forum.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan welcomed PM Shehbaz Sharif upon his arrival in Antalya and thanked him for participating in the forum. Shehbaz Sharif described Turkiye as his “second home” and said he looked forward to engaging with Erdogan and other leaders during the event.
Senior Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and special assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi, accompanied the prime minister during the meetings.
