Afghan repatriation from Pakistan continues with 500–600 daily crossings at Chaman
2 min readThe dignified repatriation of Afghan refugees from across Pakistan is ongoing, with hundreds of Afghan citizens crossing into their homeland daily through the Chaman border, according to officials and government data.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) said between 500 and 600 Afghan nationals are arriving each day at the Chaman holding camp, where registration procedures are being completed before their return.
Authorities have also set up temporary shelters at the camp to facilitate the process and provide basic support to returning families.
Officials said the arrangements are aimed at organising and easing the repatriation process as Afghan refugees continue to return in significant numbers.
According to official figures, more than 21.68 lakh Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan so far.
Some returning Afghan citizens expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s long-term hospitality, saying the country and its people had consistently cooperated during their stay.
They said Pakistan had fulfilled its role as a host nation and provided humanitarian support to millions of Afghan refugees over several decades.
Separately, regional security concerns were raised in reference to Afghanistan, with reports citing the Taliban administration’s alleged sponsorship of militants and other illegal activities as factors affecting regional stability.
The Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) has described the presence of militant safe havens in Afghanistan as a security threat to the region, according to statements attributed to the group.
It warned that extremist and armed groups operating in Afghanistan are exploiting weak governance and insecure borders, contributing to cross-border terrorism, smuggling and the movement of armed groups in neighbouring countries.
Afghan media outlet Khaama Press also reported the CSTO’s concerns, saying the organisation believes such security challenges continue to persist across the region.
