The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, on Wednesday approved a series of financial measures, including Rs2.8 billion for a national vaccination programme expected to benefit around eight million children.

The meeting in Islamabad cleared a technical supplementary grant for the Federal Directorate of Immunisation under the Ministry of National Health Services.

The ECC also approved Rs2 billion in additional funding for the education sector, to be used for priority initiatives including the establishment of Daanish School in Kuri, Islamabad, and youth skills development programmes under National Vocational and Technical Training Commission.

A grant of Rs306 million was approved for the Airports Security Force to meet essential expenses, including payments under the prime minister’s assistance package and staff allowances.

The committee further endorsed amendments to the Import Policy Order 2022, making pre-shipment inspection mandatory for areca nut (betel nut) imports to strengthen regulatory oversight.

Officials said the measures aim to support public health, boost education and employment, and ensure stricter monitoring of imports and public spending.
