Sohail Ashraf named Islamabad chief commissioner as Randhawa removed
1 min readThe federal government has removed Chaudhry Mohammad Ali Randhawa from his posts as Chief Commissioner of Islamabad and Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and appointed Lieutenant (Retd) Sohail Ashraf as his successor.
According to an official notification issued by the Establishment Division, Sohail Ashraf, a Grade-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), has been transferred and posted as Chief Commissioner, Islamabad.
Ashraf was previously serving under the Punjab government as Secretary, Communications and Works. He has held several key administrative positions during his career, including Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad and Deputy Commissioner Mandi Bahauddin.
Officials said the Cabinet Division issued the formal notification following federal government approval.
Ashraf has also served in senior roles such as Director General PDMA and Director General Industries, reflecting a broad administrative portfolio across Punjab.
He is also likely to be given additional charge as Chairman CDA, a position that traditionally falls under the chief commissioner’s purview in Islamabad’s administrative structure.
The move marks a significant administrative change in the federal capital, where the chief commissioner plays a central role in governance, land management, and urban development through oversight of the CDA.
