Airline tickets are set to become significantly more expensive as jet fuel prices jump from Rs176 to Rs417 per litre, with airlines hinting at fare increases of up to 100 percent.

The fuel surcharge has already been reflected in ticket prices.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has raised fares by $10 to $100 on local flights, and international routes have seen surcharges of $50 to $100, including $75 for UK flights and $50 for Saudi Arabia and Gulf destinations.

Private airlines have imposed additional charges ranging from $15 to $150.

Officials cited the closure of Gulf airspace as another factor increasing pressure on fares, making extraordinary price hikes inevitable.
