An important meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is underway at the Prime Minister’s House on Sunday, with senior military leadership and heads of intelligence agencies in attendance, sources said.

According to the sources, the meeting is reviewing the overall security situation in the region, including developments related to Afghanistan and Iran.

Consultations are also being held on foreign policy and national security matters, with various options and strategies under consideration. Discussions are expected to focus on Pakistan’s strategic response to evolving regional dynamics.

The meeting was convened in the wake of reports by Iranian media announcing the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in U.S. and Israeli strikes. The Iranian government has declared 40 days of mourning.

In view of the current regional situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has postponed his scheduled two-day official visit to Russia, sources said. He was due to depart for Moscow on March 2, but the visit has been deferred due to security concerns, and Russian authorities have been informed.
