Pakistan’s security forces launched Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq following what officials described as unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing at least 58 Taliban personnel, destroying multiple militant positions and targeting key military installations in coordinated ground and air operations.

According to security sources on Thursday, Afghan Taliban forces opened fire at multiple locations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting border areas and civilian localities, prompting an immediate and robust military response by Pakistani troops.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the Afghan Taliban had “miscalculated” by initiating aggression across several sectors, after which Pakistani forces carried out swift counter-operations in Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram and Bajaur.

Coordinated military response across border sectors

Security officials said Pakistani forces responded with sustained fire using both small and heavy weapons, supported by aerial drone surveillance and precision strikes.

During the operation, several Afghan Taliban check posts, hideouts and military assets were destroyed.

A Taliban check post in the Chitral sector was precisely targeted and demolished, while retaliatory strikes were conducted in Nawagai (Bajaur), Tirah (Khyber), Mohmand district and the Arandu sector.

Two Taliban posts were destroyed in Bajaur, while additional militant hideouts near the Kurram sector were neutralised, killing eight fighters.

Ongoing action in Mohmand’s Gursal sector also resulted in further militant casualties, bringing confirmed Taliban fatalities to around 58.

At the Kharlachi terminal, multiple Afghan Taliban forward posts were reduced to rubble, with security sources saying frontline defensive positions were completely eliminated.

Pakistan Air Force strikes key Taliban installations

In response to continued Afghan aggression, Pakistan Air Force jets carried out effective air strikes targeting key Taliban military infrastructure in Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia and Nangarhar, security sources said.

Air strikes in Kabul destroyed two brigade headquarters, while in Kandahar a corps headquarters and an additional brigade headquarters were demolished.

A major ammunition depot and logistics base were also destroyed during the strikes.

In Paktia, another corps headquarters was successfully targeted and neutralised.

Security sources said precision aerial strikes were also conducted in Nangarhar province, where militant hideouts were accurately identified, and a large ammunition depot was destroyed. Further strikes were reported to be ongoing.

Drone attack foiled, Taliban positions abandoned

Security sources said Afghan Taliban elements attempted to target Pakistani check posts using quadcopters, but the attack was thwarted after all hostile drones were shot down before reaching their targets.

Under intense retaliatory fire, Taliban fighters abandoned several forward positions, including areas near the Torkham border crossing, fleeing with equipment loaded onto trucks.

Officials also said that Taliban-linked media platforms are spreading fabricated videos and misinformation following the clashes.

Civilian areas and mosque targeted

Authorities said Afghan shelling struck civilian areas in Bajaur, where mortar rounds landed in the Laghri and surrounding localities, injuring five civilians, including three women. The injured were shifted to Khar hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

A mosque in Bajaur was also damaged after being hit during the shelling, with its roof and structure partially affected, drawing strong condemnation from security officials who termed the attack evidence of Taliban hostility toward civilian targets.

The incident triggered anger among residents in border districts.

Pakistan reiterates resolve to defend sovereignty

The government said Pakistan would take all necessary measures to safeguard its territorial integrity and protect the lives and property of its citizens.

Security officials emphasised that forces remain on high alert along the border and that any future aggression would be met with a swift and decisive response.

“Pakistan’s armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any cross-border aggression and will continue defending the motherland at all costs,” security sources said, adding that the border situation remains under close monitoring.
