Headway in lengthy talks between ICC, PCB and BCB
2 min readTalks between the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) concluded in Lahore, and a major breakthrough is expected within the next 24 hours, sources said on Monday.
The negotiations, held to discuss the situation following Pakistan’s decision to boycott the match against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup, lasted for more than five hours at the PCB headquarters in Lahore.
The sources said the ICC responded positively to the demands raised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board and has prepared a formula to address grievances related to what Bangladesh considers unfair treatment.
During the talks, proposals were exchanged between the ICC and the BCB, with the Pakistan Cricket Board acting as an intermediary.
ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja has departed to seek final approval from the ICC for the proposed recommendations, while Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam has also left to brief his government.
The sources added that following agreement on a mutually acceptable formula, the ICC and the BCB are expected to re-establish contact later today.
The PCB is also expected to seek formal guidance from the government on the boycott decision.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to seek government guidance on Pakistan’s stance regarding the India match.
The prime minister will make the final decision on the game, the sources said.
