T20 World Cup: India beat USA by 29 runs in group match
1 min readIndia defeated the United States by 29 runs in an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup group match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
Chasing a target of 162, the USA managed 132 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs despite a disciplined effort, falling short against a controlled Indian bowling attack.
Earlier, the USA won the toss and elected to field. Their bowlers made early inroads, preventing India’s batters from capitalising on home conditions and dismissing four players inside the powerplay.
India opener Abhishek Sharma was out for a duck, while Ishan Kishan scored 20 and Tilak Varma made 25 in brief attempts to stabilise the innings. The middle order failed to fire as Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh and Hardik Pandya were unable to make a significant contribution.
The USA bowlers dismissed three Indian batters without scoring, keeping constant pressure on the hosts.
India eventually posted 161 for 8, largely due to a composed and aggressive knock by captain Surya Kumar Yadav. He struck 84 off 49 balls and remained not out, guiding India to a competitive total.
For the USA, Shadley van Schalkwyk led the bowling attack with four wickets. Harmeet Singh claimed two, while Ali Khan took one.
In reply, the USA could not build sustained partnerships and finished on 132 for 8, handing India a 29-run victory in the group-stage encounter.
