Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Tarar has stated that consultations are ongoing regarding Pakistan’s participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and that a final decision will be taken by the government.

Speaking to the media in Lahore on Sunday, both Atta Tarar and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasised that the government’s decision will be final on this matter.

On Saturday, Naqvi reiterated that the PCB is more answerable to the government than the ICC, and the decision on whether or not to participate in the T20 World Cup will be made after the prime minister’s return.

He added that if the government decides against Pakistan’s participation, the ICC may include another team in their place.

Naqvi stressed that no single country should be allowed to dictate or impose its opinion on international cricket.

Commenting on the situation with Bangladesh, Naqvi called the treatment of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) “unjust” and said their security concerns were not taken seriously.

Meanwhile, the ICC’s decision to remove Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup and replace them with Scotland has sparked strong criticism.

The ICC’s decision prompted accusations of favouritism toward India.

Sources said the Bangladesh issue was raised before the ICC board, where 14 countries, including Sri Lanka, voted against the request.

Both Bangladesh and Pakistan maintained their stance in opposition.
