Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian aircraft until Feb 24
Pakistan has decided to keep its airspace closed to Indian-registered aircraft, extending the existing restriction until February 24 at 5:00 a.m., the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the PAA confirmed that the ban has been extended through a fresh Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). The restriction applies to all aircraft owned, operated, or leased by Indian airlines, including military flights.
Officials said the decision was taken on security and administrative grounds. As a result, Indian-registered aircraft will remain unable to use Pakistani airspace for the specified period.
The PAA said the restriction will remain in force unless reviewed earlier through another NOTAM.
Pakistan first imposed airspace restrictions on Indian aircraft in 2019 following heightened bilateral tensions.
While limited relaxations were introduced at different times, curbs on Indian-operated and Indian-registered flights have remained a recurring feature amid unresolved political and security issues.
The prolonged ban has continued to affect Indian airlines operationally and financially, forcing them to use longer alternate routes for westbound international flights, particularly to destinations in the Middle East, Europe, and North America.
