Australia name 17-player squad for T20I tour of Pakistan
Australia have announced a 17-player squad for their three-match T20I series against Pakistan ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The series will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on January 29, 31, and February 1.
Injured trio Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David will skip the Pakistan tour to focus on their World Cup preparations.
Other players involved in the Big Bash League finals will join the squad once their commitments conclude.
Selectors have included several new faces, including uncapped Perth Scorchers fast bowler Mahli Beardman and Sydney Sixers allrounder Jack Edwards, as well as left-handed batter Matthew Renshaw.
Beardman and Edwards have impressed in the Big Bash and were previously part of Australia’s white-ball squads.
“Ten of the 17 players touring Pakistan are also part of the World Cup squad,” said selection chair George Bailey.
“The series is a great opportunity for young players and those on the fringe to gain valuable experience with the World Cup group.”
Australia are confident Hazlewood and David will be fit for the World Cup opener against Ireland on February 11 in Sri Lanka, while Cummins is expected to return later in the tournament after recovering from lumbar stress.
The tour offers fringe players a chance to make an impression and helps manage workloads ahead of Australia’s World Cup campaign in Sri Lanka and India.
