President, PM call for unity, reforms and peace in New Year
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have called for national unity, economic discipline and collective resolve as Pakistan enters 2026, while reaffirming the country’s commitment to peace, democracy and security.
In his New Year message, President Zardari urged citizens and political forces to work together to safeguard Pakistan’s future amid global conflicts, economic pressures and climate challenges.
Extending greetings to Pakistanis at home and abroad, he said the country required “national soul-searching and collective resolve” as it moved closer to its 79th Independence Day.
Highlighting economic challenges, the president stressed the need for discipline, productivity and inclusive growth, calling for greater investment in education, healthcare, youth and emerging technologies.
He also described climate change as a national security issue, citing floods, droughts and extreme heat as growing threats.
On the political front, President Zardari called for constructive engagement and democratic responsibility, warning against confrontation and exploitation by hostile elements.
He said he was ready to lead a process of national reconciliation to bridge political divides and restore trust.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, he said the country’s defence was non-negotiable and would be ensured with full national resolve.
The president also reiterated support for the Palestinian people, called for a peaceful resolution of disputes with India, including Jammu and Kashmir, and urged Afghanistan’s authorities to honour international commitments.
In a separate message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the resilience of the nation and paid tribute to martyrs who lost their lives in terrorist attacks during the past year.
He said 2025 would be remembered for the successful defence of the country, lauding the armed forces and the nation for standing united against threats.
Expressing optimism about the economy, the prime minister said improvements in key indicators reflected the government’s positive direction.
He pledged to accelerate economic reforms in 2026 to ensure tangible prosperity for the people.
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional and global peace and expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir and Palestine.
He prayed for the new year to bring unity, stability, prosperity and protection from terrorism, sectarianism and division.
