Dense fog disrupts life across Punjab, key motorways closed
Dense fog gripped several cities across Punjab on Saturday, severely reducing visibility and forcing the closure of major motorways at multiple points as a precautionary measure, authorities said.
In Lahore, thick fog brought visibility down to just 100 metres in several areas, affecting road traffic and daily routines.
Officials said the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 189, indicating unhealthy air conditions.
Due to poor visibility, motorway authorities closed several key routes to ensure public safety.
The Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (M-11) was shut, while the M-2 remained closed from Lahore to Kot Momin.
The M-3 was closed between Faizpur and Jaranwala, and the M-4 was shut from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad.
Officials said the temporary closures were implemented to protect lives and property, urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions and to use headlights and fog lights if driving was unavoidable.
Weather officials warned that foggy conditions could persist in parts of central Punjab, advising citizens to stay updated through official advisories.
Traffic police also appealed to commuters to exercise caution, reduce speed, and maintain safe distances while on the road.
