Court Suspends Order, Restrains Former Director from Making Allegations Against K-Electric
A court in Karachi has temporarily restrained former K-Electric director Syed Asad Ali Shah from making statements or taking actions that could harm the reputation of the power utility, after suspending an earlier order that had gone against the company.
The Court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge XII, Karachi South, on Friday suspended the operation of an order issued on December 2, 2025. That earlier order had vacated the interim relief granted to K-Electric in a defamation case it filed against Asad Ali Shah. The defamation suit, numbered 434 of 2025, had been transferred to a Senior Civil Judge, who later dismissed K-Electric’s application for a stay.
K-Electric challenged that decision by filing a Civil Miscellaneous Appeal before the appellate court. During the hearing, the company’s counsel, Barrister Ayan Memon, argued that the former board member was running a campaign that was damaging K-Electric’s market reputation and breaching confidentiality obligations. He maintained that such actions were causing harm to the company and its officials.

On the other side, advocate Furkan Ali appeared on behalf of the respondent after submitting a vakalatnama to the court. Both parties presented their arguments during the hearing.
After considering submissions from both sides, the appellate court decided to suspend the earlier order in the interest of justice. The court made it clear that this suspension was granted without commenting on the merits of the case itself. The suspension will remain in effect until the next hearing.
The court also issued directions restraining Syed Asad Ali Shah from harassing K-Electric in any manner. This includes sending letters or emails, using social media platforms, making statements to third parties, or creating media pages to level allegations or malign K-Electric or its officials.
The court has fixed January 8, 2026, as the next date of hearing, when objections will be filed and further arguments on the application will be heard.
