The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday forecast rain and heavy snowfall in the country’s upper parts from December 20 to 22, while warning of intensified cold and dense fog in the plains.

According to the PMD, intermittent rain and hail are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and the Galiyat during the period.

Upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also likely to receive rain, hail and snowfall.

The Met Office has predicted heavy snowfall in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which may disrupt road traffic in mountainous areas.

In Punjab’s plain areas, authorities have warned of a further drop in temperatures along with increased fog intensity, particularly during morning and night hours.

The PMD has advised travellers to exercise caution while using motorways and hilly routes, citing the risk of reduced visibility and possible landslides due to snowfall.

Relevant departments have been directed to remain on alert to deal with any emergency situation.
