Family, leaders to meet Imran Khan today amid heightened security
Family members and leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are scheduled to meet party founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, amid heightened security and restrictions in the city.
The PTI has called for a protest outside Adiala Jail, while Section 144 remains in force in Rawalpindi, prohibiting public gatherings.
Law enforcement agencies have put stringent security arrangements in place around the jail, with police pickets established at four locations in the surrounding area.
Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, said she would go to Adiala Jail and would not leave the place until the meeting is facilitated.
“We will not step back from our purpose even if water cannons are used against us,” Aleema Khan said while speaking to the media.
She rejected reports of internal divisions within the party, saying that claims of an “Aleema Khan group” or a “Bushra Bibi group” were merely propaganda.
“The PTI founder’s team is our team,” she said.
Aleema Khan also dismissed political narratives surrounding PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, saying she was surprised that some people took him seriously.
Meanwhile, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Monday that meetings with the PTI founder would be allowed if party members adhered to conditions laid out in jail manual regulations.
He warned that violations of jail rules by anyone would result in suspension of visitation rights.
Authorities have urged the public to maintain law and order as security forces remain on high alert around the jail.
