Voting begins as PPP, JUI face off in PS-9 Shikarpur by-election
Polling is underway in the by-election for the Sindh Assembly seat PS-9, Shikarpur, on Saturday amid tight security in and around polling stations.
The contest is primarily between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Agha Shehbaz Khan Durrani and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) nominee Rashadullah.
The polling process has begun and is continuing across designated polling stations.
The seat had fallen vacant following the death of PPP member Agha Siraj Durrani.
The PPP candidate, Agha Shehbaz Khan Durrani, is the son of Agha Siraj Durrani.
The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the peaceful holding of the by-election.
To facilitate voters, an Election Monitoring and Control Centre has been established where the public can contact authorities regarding election-related matters, register complaints, and seek their prompt resolution.
Trained staff have been deployed at the centre to ensure immediate action on complaints.
The Election Commission has set up control centres at four levels to receive and address public grievances, including at the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad, as well as at the provincial, divisional, and district levels.
