Pakistan Army tops medal table as 35th National Games conclude in Karachi
The 35th National Games concluded with a colourful closing ceremony at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday, with Pakistan Army emerging as the highest medal-winning contingent.
Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was the chief guest at the ceremony.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah were also in attendance.
According to final medal standings released by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Pakistan Army dominated the games with a total of 353 medals, including 200 gold, 97 silver and 56 bronze.
The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) finished second with 85 gold, 73 silver and 74 bronze medals, while Pakistan Navy secured third place with 36 gold, 39 silver and 35 bronze.
Among the provinces, Punjab emerged as the most successful with 16 gold medals, followed by Sindh with 11, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with five and Balochistan with four.
Islamabad Capital Territory finished 11th, winning two gold, five silver and 11 bronze medals.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan remained the only teams without a gold or silver medal, managing seven bronze medals each and finishing at the bottom of the table.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem.
Bilawal presented a traditional Sindhi ajrak and cap to Field Marshal Asim Munir and also conferred an honorary shield.
In his address, Bilawal praised the successful conduct of the National Games and thanked the Field Marshal for attending the event. He said teams from all provinces showcased their talent and competitive spirit.
Field Marshal Munir awarded the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to Pakistan Army for securing the top position.
Wapda and Pakistan Navy were recognised for finishing second and third, respectively.
The Sindh chief minister presented a shield to Pakistan Police for their performance, while Punjab received a special trophy from Bilawal Bhutto.
The field marshal formally announced the conclusion of the 35th National Games and declared Punjab as the host province for the 36th edition.
