Six dead as passenger van plunges into Jhelum River in Azaad Pattan
A tragic accident in Azaad Pattan, Kahuta, left six people dead after a passenger van fell into the Jhelum River, authorities said.
The van, carrying 14 passengers, went off the road on Thursday.
Rescue teams recovered five bodies initially, while five passengers were rescued with injuries.
One of the injured later died in hospital, raising the death toll to six, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
Four passengers remain missing, and rescue operations were paused overnight due to darkness. Authorities said the search will resume on Friday morning.
The SDMA confirmed that the operation is ongoing and urged locals to assist in providing any information that could aid the rescue efforts.
