Google set to launch AI-powered smart glasses in 2026
Google intends to introduce its inaugural series of AI-powered smart glasses in 2026, signalling a comeback of wearable tech that fuses augmented reality, AI, and standard eyewear.
The glasses, developed with partners including Warby Parker, Gentle Monster and Samsung, are expected to come in two versions.
One will offer a screen-free, audio-focused design with built-in cameras, microphones and speakers for hands-free interaction with Google’s Gemini assistant.
The other model will feature an in-lens display, providing discreet access to navigation cues, translation captions and notifications without requiring a phone.
The move marks Google’s return to smart eyewear more than a decade after Google Glass, which drew criticism over its appearance and privacy implications.
Using Android XR as the base and cutting-edge AI techniques to create useful everyday functionality, the business is striving for a more understated design this time.
Analysts say the launch comes as interest in AI and AR eyewear grows, with users looking for alternatives to frequent smartphone use.
Google’s new glasses could advance a shift toward wearable, glance-based computing, though questions remain over privacy, ease of use and battery performance.
