Strict security in place around Adiala Jail ahead of PTI founder’s meeting with lawyers

Shops, schools and petrol pumps closed as Section 144 enforced across city

Authorities in Rawalpindi shut down shops, markets and petrol pumps around Adiala Jail on Tuesday as part of security measures ahead of PTI founder Imran Khan’s meeting with lawyers.

Educational institutions in the vicinity have also been closed as Section 144 remains in force across the city.

The main route leading to the prison, Adiala Road, has also been closed.

Security officials warned that any violation of the order will be dealt with strictly.

List of lawyers

Lawyers are scheduled to meet the PTI founder in Adiala Jail today, and a list of six lawyers has been sent to the jail administration.

The list included the names of PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, lawyer Salman Akram Raja, Intezar Panjutha, Lal Badshah, Mubasher Rehman and Abdul Rehman Ranjha.

The party has directed its lawmakers, office-bearers and workers to gather outside the jail to show strength.

Security strengthened at checkpoints

As part of security measures, a water cannon has also been placed to take immediate action in case of violations of Section 144.

Additional police personnel have been deployed at Gorakhpur and Dahgal checkpoints, and barricades outside the jail have been reinforced.

SSP Operations Tariq Malik said that no one would be allowed to break the law.

Fixed days for meeting

The authorities have fixed Tuesdays and Thursdays for meetings with Imran Khan.

Lawyers, family members and listed visitors are allowed to visit Khan on these days.

Last week, Imran Khan met his sister Uzma Khan after a month-long break.

She later told reporters that Khan’s health was satisfactory, although he appeared angry and claimed he was being subjected to mental torture.

Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah said the meeting took place on the condition that there would be no press talk afterwards.
