Indonesian president to visit Pakistan; hold key meetings aimed at deepening ties

'Visit of President Prabowo will provide an important opportunity to deepen bilateral ties'

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, accompanied by a high-level delegation, will undertake an official visit — his first since taking office — to Pakistan on December 8 and 9, the Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement on Sunday.

According to the statement with the FO, “The upcoming visit carries added significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia.”

He will hold delegation-level talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

“The two sides will discuss a wide-ranging agenda aimed at further strengthening Pakistan-Indonesia relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation, including trade, investment, defence, health, IT, climate, education and culture, as well as enhancing collaboration at regional and global levels. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit,” said the statement.

FO cherished Pakistan-Indonesia relationships as “close, cordial and long-standing”, backed and strengthened by “shared values and mutual interests.”

It says, “The visit of President Prabowo will provide an important opportunity to deepen bilateral ties and expand mutually beneficial cooperation, contributing to the continued growth and diversification of the partnership between the two countries.”
