A suspected robber was killed by a mob in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Monday after he allegedly shot dead a citizen during a robbery attempt, police said.

According to officials, the incident began in Orangi Town’s Baloch Goth area, where the suspect fatally shot a man identified as Abdul Hannan during a robbery.

As the suspect, identified as Sajid, son of Zareen Dad from Orangi Town’s De Silvi Town, attempted to flee, residents chased him down, overpowered him, and tied him to an electric pole.

According to police and rescue officials, residents pelted him with stones in their rage.

Eyewitnesses said the mob then set the suspect on fire. Video clips circulating on social media showed the man trying to free himself as the flames spread, removing his shirt in an attempt to escape the blaze.

Police reached the scene and tried to save the suspect by throwing sand on the fire before shifting him to a hospital.

However, authorities confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
